Pre-Ceremony: Obligations as Maid of Honor

Pre-Ceremony: Obligations as Maid of Honor

As Maid of Honor, you’re probably already aware of your significant role in the bride’s upcoming event. You will assist the bride by performing a variety of duties, and most of these tasks will be conducted before the actual ceremony. The duties of a MOH, however, are often inexplicit. The following list will clarify your primary pre-wedding responsibilities as Maid of Honor:

1.) Aid with the Venue Search- Ask the bride if she needs help finding a wedding site. Go with her to see several venues to assist her with this difficult decision.
2.) Assisting the Bridesmaids- It’s your job to make sure that all bridesmaids are performing their necessary duties on time, such as attending all dress fittings and receiving their dress and any jewelry orders. You should communicate information about all pre-wedding events to the bridesmaids ahead of time. Ensure that all bridesmaids have a means of getting to the wedding ceremony and rehearsal and have housing accommodations booked.
3.) Gift List- Document all presents that are given at each pre-wedding party and on the wedding day, or designate a bridesmaid to this job.
4.) Dresses, Dresses, Dresses- Aid the bride in shopping for her wedding and bridesmaid dresses. See to it that all bridesmaid dress orders are made and received in ample time to be modified if necessary.
5.) Bachelorette Party Responsibilities- You will be preparing the bachelorette party. This includes sending out all invitations and gathering money from all confirmed guests before the party, as well as planning the event.
6.) Shower Obligations- You will be in charge of arranging and either cohosting or hosting the bridal shower.
7.) Rehearsal Dinner Duties- It is crucial to remain on-task and consistently help during the rehearsal dinner, as the bride, groom and their parents will probably be especially distracted at this time.
8.) Additional Tasks- Go to all bridal shows and tastings with the bride, including the cake tasting. Also, be prepared to fill in for any of the tasks that she may ask you to go with her for.
