Destinations weddings have become very popular in the last 10 years. Imagine an exotic location with white, sandy beaches and swaying palm trees. Or a weekend packed with activities in any fun location.
Check online for reviews and ask for the names and numbers of five recent bridal couples at the resort you choose.
Due to the cost and time involved (they usually last multiple days) guest lists are typically short (usually 25-50 max), which makes for a more intimate affair.
You may want to set up a live podcast of your ceremony for guests unable to make it, or tape your ceremony and either post it online or play it during an informal gathering after the wedding.
Just be sure to check on local marriage laws and traditions, climate fluctuations and required immunizations. Don’t be afraid to negotiate. It’s a good idea to hire a local wedding planner – one that you’re fully comfortable with, as (s)he will really be the one calling most of the shots. If you can afford it, pay a visit well before the wedding to make sure everything looks in person like it does on the website/brochure.
